Penetration is restricted by design

Formulations supplying the same lipid classes support that process by reducing water loss while the skin rebuilds its own matrix.
Recovery is slower with age, in dry conditions and in people with genetically reduced production of the structural proteins involved.
Why routine order and frequency matter
Every additional active applied daily adds to the total load the barrier must accommodate, and irritation reflects the sum rather than any single product.
Introducing one product at a time makes the source of a reaction identifiable, which a full routine changed at once does not.
Persistent redness, cracking, weeping or a rash that spreads is a matter for a doctor rather than a formulation adjustment, since several skin conditions present that way.
