Several regions worldwide are described as holding unusual concentrations of people past one hundred. Whether that is true depends less on biology than on how carefully births were once recorded.
Extreme age claims require documents, not testimony
Verifying that someone has reached one hundred and ten requires a birth record created near the time of birth, plus an unbroken chain of documents linking that record to the living person.
Recollection cannot substitute. Memory of one's own birth year is inherited from family accounts, and in places where age carried social or administrative weight, those accounts were sometimes adjusted.

Errors are asymmetric and inflate the count
Age errors do not cancel out. A person recorded as older than they are can enter the centenarian count; someone recorded as younger simply disappears from it until later.

Registration quality varied by era, terrain and administration. Remote mountain and island communities often adopted systematic recording late, and wartime archive losses left gaps elsewhere.
In the United States, statewide birth registration arrived at different times in different states, so historical American age data has its own uneven reliability across regions.
Any comparison of longevity between places is partly a comparison of bureaucratic history, and separating that from real differences takes deliberate work.

Those factors are observed together, which makes attributing outcomes to any single one difficult. The communities differ from one another in diet and habit while sharing the outcome. Longitudinal work in these places is also difficult to fund and slow to produce results, so the descriptive accounts run well ahead of the causal evidence.

Popular accounts often convert an unverified cluster into a lifestyle prescription, presenting a specific food or routine as the cause of exceptional age.
Understanding that the underlying count may be a records artifact keeps the reasoning honest. The habits described are unremarkable and broadly supported elsewhere; the dramatic framing is what fails.
